Greg Perry (who created the song), Barney Perkins and General Norman Johnson wrote the music. Eventually, the concept for the track began when a recording artist called Barney Perkins, while looking through the secret section of a paper, proposed that someone should post a track through search ads & Greg Perry thought the concept might work.

Johnson (who at that time was still a member of the soleyband Chairmen of the Board) after writing the track "Somebody's Been Sleeping in My Bed" with Greg Perry for the group 100 Proof (Aged in Soul).

It was first performed by Glass Act (led by Scherrie Payne, Freda Payne's sibling and former co-lead vocalist of The Supremes in the 70s). Sherrie didn't like the track & Greg didn't like the track, so they & Freda did the recording themselves, but after she was unhappy with the second release, she proposed that Edna Wright (the Honey Cone vocalist ) should do the recording after passing through the recording studios.
