What is the best way to set an affiliate fee?

You have already selected which Shopify affiliate application to use for your shop, and now you're asking yourself how much you can sell to your associates. It is something you want to think about before you start promoting your affiliate programme. Here are some tips to help you get an idea of how much you can have.

4 major criteria are taken into consideration when setting your commission: 1 ) Profits, 2) Costs of winning customers, 3) Affiliate rates of the competitors and 4) Rebates and Promotion. 1 ) Gross Profits Volume - This is the first place where I begin. Obviously, you cannot quote 50% of your sales revenue on products where you only have a 20% return on your investment or where you are quickly out of trading (and are likely to be in debt).

So, begin by calculating your minimal, mean and mean margin for articles in your shop. It is also possible to define these numbers individually for each class or kind of products, as it is possible to have different rates of provision for each class of products, according to the complexity of your programme.

My own personal experiences show that the easier the provisioning, the better, but everything is possible from a technical point of view. It is not unusual for 25-75% fees to be offered for e-commerce but I have seen up to 90% (or even 100%) and up to 3%. You can see that there is no such thing as a universally accepted affiliate fee. Examine out what opponents and how they are structuring their affiliate programmes because that is a good place to start. What is more, you can also find out what your opponents do.

It is also what your partners will compare you when they decide whether they support you or someone else. Keep in mind that your partners have many product/service choices they can present, so they will want to select those that transform well and provide a good payment. Trademarks that are already in place can provide a lower fee because they are well known and usually have a good turnover ratio.

Sometimes new brand names have to provide a higher fee in order to remain appealing to prospective partners. 4 ) Promotion & Discounts - Don't neglect to include your present and prospective promotion in your calculation when setting your affiliate fee level. If not, you will quickly get discounts and take yourself out of the store.

Are you offering first timers a 10% discount on their first order to subscribe to your newsletters? Remember your promotional story and also what you want to do in the near term so that you can allow yourself to earn an affiliate fee on sales merchandise or in connection with your other promotional activities.

Don't get too high with your affiliate fee. You will not annoy your partners if you raise their fees later, but if you do the opposite, you will loose some partners and develop a bad will towards your mark. You can also earn higher fees in the shape of bonus or competitions.

This way you are not certain to keep a high level of referral fees all the while - but it is something you can provide as a reward to really get your partner's attention and increase your referral revenue at certain periods of the year.

After all, you can, beginning with a lower price, give your most precious business associates a higher price if you wish, without having to give them all. As soon as you win a new client through one of your affiliate members, they will have joined your eco-system and you will be able to refer the entire business to that client without going through your affiliate.

Keep in mind to consider this long-term value of your clients when making decisions about your provision structures. I wouldn't mind for many companies if I were to break even on affiliate selling - as long as I had a way to maximise the long-term value of each new client they bring me.
